Played another game of Fortress tonight. I love this game more and more everytime I play it. Virtually impossible to get but I am going to have to cook up a home brew copy to share with some of my other friends.
The copy I have played is a home brew version with some adjustments to the origional rules but it is true to the spirit of the origional and it is a lot of fun.
Looks cool! I'd love to see what you make.

Last weekend we got more games of Dominion and Ascension in.
I played Ascension three times yesterday. That gives me 20+ games I've played so far. I still have a hard time figuring out some basic strategies, yet my friend seems to be on a winning streak.
He said he pays more attention to the honor points at the bottom of the card than I do, which is probably true. Having banish and draw cards are helpful, but each time you buy those, you're not buying a card worth more honor. I feel like as soon as I have a killer deck, then there's like 10 honor left on the table and the game is basically done.
Tricky game.
If anyone has any strategies, I created an Ascension thread.

I love work from home day lunch break. Played Dominion with my son... lost.
Actually we were playing wrong all this time (sort of). Forgot there were victory card restrictions for a 2 player game (8 of each), we always use the entire pile. Explains why our games went longer and scored higher than normal.
So we finally play correctly and I lose, hmmmm...

Last night we got to break out Kill Doctor Lucky. My wife and son both enjoyed it. I got this as a steal on clearance at my local FLGS. I think it will turn out to be a great buy.

I picked up my copy of Dungeonquest yesterday and we gave it a whirl tonight. I have to say that it's the oddest game I've ever played. On the very first move of the very first turn of our brand-spankin'-new, fresh from the shrinkwrap game, my son flipped over a Shining Blade trap card - insta-kill. We all sort of stared at the board, and then at each other, and then we just started laughing. It was so ridiculous that we couldn't help it. I told him to go ahead and try again so that he could at least play long enough to learn the rules.
Next, my other son drew a Secret Door card that let him move to an adjacent space even if there was no door. So what does he draw? A dead end room. No way in or out, because he went through the wall to get there. He was fortunate enough to draw another secret door before he died of hunger though.
It was so completely strange and yet funny as hell. I'm almost hesitant to call it a game, because there's really very little that you can do to control it. It really strikes me more like Tales of the Arabian Nights or something, where the point is more about the story than about winning. I definitely need a few more plays to get a sense of whether it's a keeper or not, but I absolutely have nothing like it in my collection.

I would definitely be interested in hearing more. I just watched a review (GamesWithHayden) and thought this looked like a good one to play with my son.

Several games of Forbidden Island. All four of us enjoy it, which is pretty rare these days. 4 player seems much harder than 2 player, but losing actually lets me sucker everyone in for another game. "Bedtime, shmedtime, we have to try one more time!"

The princes got to pick the game last night and she chose Drakon.
Not the most strategic game in the world when you're playing against a 7 and 5yr old, but in a group of 4-6 gamers, this one is a lot of fun (plenty-o-screw your neighbor, actually more like the whole neighborhood).

A touch of Evil x1
I FINALLY won my first game of this last night, took out the Horseman with the mighty solider Karl! I just got luck that my two friends didn't have any event cards to screw my attack over.
Then we played a game of Culdcept. While technically a video game, it's also a board/CC game - and a ton of fun at that! We ruined a single computer vs the three of us (one new player so we just took it easy to show her the ropes).

Broke out Conflict of Heroes (Awakening the Bear) last night. It's been a long while since I played so I had to read through the rules again and only played the first scenario a few times solitaire. However, my 10 year old son was interested so I was walking him through a few turns to teach him the game mechanics.
Now he wants to play!
(sorry, no cost per play break-down on this one.)

Quick game of Pirate vs Pirate tonight. Looks like Football season is really going to cramp game time, especially with school starting next week. By the time everything is done and the little guy has had dinner it's nearly time for bed.
Eh, didn't stop him from grabbing the Ninja's from Ninja vs Ninja and putting them on the Pirate board.

Have you seen the revised rules? I bought this when it originally came out and have only played a few times. I saw the designer at GenCon with the newest game in the system. He told me that one rule changed, but that it made a huge difference in the game. I haven't downloaded it yet, but I think he said it had something to do with both players getting AP to use simultaneously. You might check it out.
As for gaming, last night got together with a buddy to play a handful of games.
Claustrophobia x1- My first full game of this. Very fun and I would like to play it some more. I lost as the humans, but enjoyed it very much.
Mr. Jack x2- I taught this to my buddy. He caught me the first game and I caught him the second. I've only played 3 total games, but it seems more difficult for the Jack player. Do others find that true?
Summoner Wars x1- He beat my Dwarves with his Orcs. Fun game that was back and forth.

Ninja versus Ninja x 2
Drakon x 1 (my son continues to amaze me with his strategic planning - he intentionally played a "lose a coin" tile for himself to prevent me from stealing his only coin...)
Ca$h & Gun$ x 2 - This was terrific! We played 5 player basic the first time to learn, then used the undercover cop the second time to spice it up. Good times!
Last Night on Earth x 1 - 4 Players versus the Zombies, we had to torch the Manor. We got about halfway before running out of heroes. I think there were 5 Zombie Heroes on the board at one point? It was a mess...
Pirates Dice x 2 - I won both
Forbidden Island - We all won...on Novice...
Drakon x 2
Settlers of Catan - I won

That's brilliant! My daughter suddenly seems to understand the game partly now, the part where I get screwed over. I was set to run a gambit of 3 coin rooms that I built the other day, and then she maneuvered over to a Rotate a Room chamber and prevented me entry to my riches.

Drakon is a seemingly simple game, but it really does lend itself to tricky in game tactics. I'm constantly surprised by how much a fairly "light" game has to offer. My kids have gotten quite subtle and backstabby )) thanks to this game.
Not the most consistently solid game, but it sure has some excellent moments!

Scape
Small World (I won on tiebreaker 95-95, 19-15)
Pokemon x2
You reap what you sow as the saying goes. I'm the Dad who read the Pokemon rules and taught his son how to play correctly, and the other kids in the hood finally got wind of it. Spent about two hours showing a couple of them how to build a deck and then had them face off in a demo game.
It was actually pretty fun, and now I have a whole crop of little minions to start dropping hints of other games too. A couple of them walked in on us playing Small World and ones eye bulged out of his head. Oh yeah... hooked.

Today we got in 2x Kill Doctor Lucky and 1x Settlers of Catan. This was my son's first game of Settlers and her did a pretty good job. It was a slightly slow game because brick was hard to come by, but I pulled out the win. I haven't played this in a couple years, but enjoyed it more than I thought (I had burned myself out on this somewhat).

You play a deep and subtle game, nyys. I tip my hat to you, sir.
As far as I can tell Yugioh actually has no rules, and it has horrid artwork, but a few years ago we did play Pokemon with the rules. Hopefully your little ones will skip the Yugioh phase.

Occasionally I whip out my Pokemon decks and relive the glory days.
Played Loot, a pretty straightforward quick card game that I hadn't played for 3 years. It's decent with 2 players, but I bet it would be better with multiples. Discovered after the fact that we're missing a card.
Also played 5 games of Heroscape (one of them 6 player 300 points each)

Well, if both players get analysis paralysis simultaneously, that should at least speed things along.

It's been a long weekend starting Friday night and ending this afternoon or pretty much playing Ascension nonstop. The replayability of this game can't be overstressed. We probably got in 20 games, and I won TWO.
I point that out because upon your first couple plays it seems like there's not a lot of strategy available.
