The first few sentences are correct
They have been getting smaller and smaller in number. There are a number of reasons for the decrease in the axolotl population. One of them is that the water in the canals has become more and more polluted. Another is that invasive species of fish in the lake are eating the axolotl's food. This is why they are endangered. Scientists came up with a program to support them, and asked people to do ate money to help save the axolotls.
Axolotls remind me of a phenomenon in Japan in the 1980s. There was a Japanese instant noodle commercial where a Japanese person had gotten an axolotl as a pet.
